Thoughts for Advent: Day One

A Poem for Day One

It should be a simple task

Slow down
Prepare
Make room

It should be a welcome time

Embraced
Invited
Pursued

This act of anticipation
This rhythm of expectation
I should hail with happy heart

Should
Should
Should

In truth, reality is a bit more grim
The invitation to draw aside
to reflect and expect
is lost in the mess of daily life
and rank trappings of all this is not

The people living in darkness
The people living in darkness
Yes, the people living in darkness
have seen a great light

On this first day
my question is simple...

How might I un-clutter
in hopes of glimpsing
the promised light?
