A Little Fear on Our Way Toward Departure

Oh Seattle! We felt so loved!

It's nice how love produces love. We felt loved and now we think everyone we talked with in Seattle is the greatest :-) Seriously though, we felt really cared about by all the supporters, mission teams and friends that we met with over the last ten days.

Of all the people we told our "Why we're off to Africa" story to, my favorite was a class of thirty 16 year olds I spoke to at my niece's public high school. I asked them what they can buy for $2. They said a candy bar, a cup of coffee, a cheeseburger. They thought they could maybe make it for a couple hours on $2. We talked about the fact that 2.7 billion people live on less than $2 a day.

I really enjoyed being with that group. It made me happy to be able to tell them about stuff.

Anyway, it won't be long now till we book our tickets for April or May and I suddenly have this weird feeling...

We've been running around raising funds and getting things in order to move and pretty soon we're gonna be there and the dust is gonna settle and you know what? We're going to look around and say "OH MY WORD? WHAT HAVE WE DONE? WHAT ARE WE DOING BACK IN AFRICA??"

I realize it's normal but it can feel a little weird to know something is right and to want it really badly and to be scared to death of it at the same time.

I can understand those feelings. We are at about two weeks to heading back to Madrid and even though it is where we want to be, suddenly leaving here seems crazy too. Amazing how we can adapt even to "in-between" huh? All this yearning reminds me of a few other posts you have written about this international life of leaving. We'll be praying for you in these last few months.

What is amazing to me is the proof that God is the director of your paths. You have done this before,...and before that! So...you know these feelings deep in your heart and yet, you continue to follow and be led. Those 16 year olds are touched because of your stories and even more so that our huge God would lead His people to move and move again and serve when called.
DANG! I wish now that I would have been on the ball and arranged for you to speak at MHS's chapel or in a few classes...did SGCS take your offer to speak there?
Wouldn't want to stretch your beautiful bodies any more than they already are.
Truly though, His stories of serving need to be told in this big gimmie-gimmie So. Cal./USA culture.
Guess, the time is now to also be praying that the settling in the dust of Africa will be smooth and powerful!!

hi lisa! i stumbled across your blog and i've been a lurker for a little while, but after reading this post i had to comment! that last sentence puts words to what i've been feeling these past few weeks preparing to leave for france. it's so encouraging to know that i'm not alone and that we're all working through the same kinds of things. just wanted to thank you for your words and let you know they reached somebody tonight. :)
